Cronos: The New Dawn is Bloober Team’s Next Big Move

Bloober Team, renowned for its horror games, recently achieved major success with the Silent Hill 2 Remake, which sold over a million copies in its first week. Despite initial skepticism from fans, the team has proven itself. Now, Bloober is focusing on its next project, an original survival horror game titled Cronos: The New Dawn.

Set in an alternate version of 1980s Poland, this game represents a shift from Bloober’s earlier psychological horror titles to a more gameplay-driven survival horror experience, influenced by classic titles like Resident Evil and Silent Hill.

Co-directors Wojciech Piejko and Jacek Zięba emphasized in a new inteview with Eurogamer that Cronos: The New Dawn will build on the studio’s expertise in horror while introducing more action-oriented elements. The game will mix puzzle-solving and combat, with a unique mechanic similar to the Dead Space limb-shooting system.

“We just love furniture from our grandma’s houses,” stated Piejko. According to him, Netflix series Travelers has had an influence on the game, along with Terry Gilliam’s 12 Monkeys and John Carpenter’s The Thing.

Players will face scarce resources and overwhelming enemies, with combat centered around a transforming gun.

Cronos: The New Dawn

The setting of Cronos: The New Dawn is one of its most intriguing aspects. Poland, particularly Bloober’s hometown of Krakow, serves as the backdrop, giving the game an exotic, retro-futuristic vibe inspired by sci-fi classics like Alien.

The game’s protagonist, a “Traveller” in a hulking suit reminiscent of Bioshock, is sent back in time to survive a post-apocalyptic world filled with strange monsters.

While the game promises tension and atmosphere over jump scares, Bloober aims to unsettle players through psychological horror. As Piejko explains, the best horror gets under your skin, creating fear through atmosphere rather than cheap thrills.

Cronos: The New Dawn is slated for a 2025 release, marking Bloober’s first foray into a fully original survival horror franchise. You can continue to check back here for our continued coverage on the game, as well as all things Bloober Team.
