ZombiU developer is disappointed with early reviews

It’s a very tough job to lift new IP or obscure remakes off the ground in this day and age. Sales and review scores depend, for a part, on brand-recognition (even though sometimes we’d prefer not to admit that). ZombiU came out as a launch title for the WiiU a few weeks ago and currently has a Metacritic score of 76/100 for both user and official reviews. That score isn’t too bad, especially for a remake of a game barely anybody remembers, but apparently it was too low to amaze producer Guillaume Brunier and his team.

“We were really disappointed with the early US reviews,” he told Nintendo Life. “We are aware of the strengths and weaknesses of the experience we created but we did not expect so harsh a feedback. However as more and more journalists and gamers played the game, these opinions proved to be a minority. So right now we’re rather pleased with the overall reception of the game.”

I gave the game an 8/10 in my review, but apparently sites like GameSpot and Game Informer didn’t agree, calling the game “a weak link in the Wii U’s launch lineup” and “a horrifying Frankenstein’s Monster” respectively. I am not very fond of studios claiming they are “disappointed” with review scores, though, since the solution to that problem is held by themselves and their publishers: make better games. Take all the criticism and feedback you’ve received on-board and use it to make a sequel or for an entirely new project!

What score would you give the game? Do you think Brunier is right? Let us know in the comments!
