Yomawari: Midnight Shadows, sequel to popular bit-graphics horror Yomawari: Night Alone, has finally come west. To be fair, this transition took much less time than Night Alone, clocking in at a mere 60 days after the Japanese release. The game continues Yomawari’s cute retro graphics and top-down style, along with its ultra creepy Japanese take on survival horror.
Players take on two girls in Midnight Shadows, separated and alone in a strange town after being attacked as they walk home. As is wont to happen in strange Japanese towns, the streets change at night and become haunted by spirits unhappy to see living visitors on their land. Players must survive these encounters and guide the girls back to one another so that they can go home. To help along the way, each girl has a flashlight and the ability to use environmental items to pass blockades or run away. There are also charms hidden along the path home that increase different stats and give the girls a better chance of making it out alive.
Yomawari: Midnight Shadows is available on Steam for $29.99, or bundled with Yomawari: Night Alone for $33.07.
