XSEED Games, the loveable folks that have localized many weird Japanese games, my favorite being the Corpse Party series, has today announced that they will be localizing Akiba’s Trip 2 for a North American release.
Set for summer 2014, Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed will be coming to the PlayStation 3 and Vita. For those of you that might not know what Akiba’s Trip is, it’s a game centered around the real life popular electronics district in Tokyo, Akihabara. When vampire-esque creatures called the “Synthisters” begin invading the otaku district, it’s up to a boy named Nanashi to stop them.
The Synthisters drain the will to live and the desire to socialize from their victims, turning them into the undead. Nanashi and his friends have to literally strip the incognito Synthisters of their clothes to expose them to lethal sunlight. A variety of weapons can be found in the recreated district of Akihabara, and the clothes of defeated foes can be worn by Nanashi.
Akiba’s Trip is a game that I’ve wanted to play for awhile now. Its premise is ridiculous and its gameplay looks incredibly silly. I’m glad to see the game being localized, as I was tempted to eventually pick up the original version for a review.
