Gaming giant Microsoft has just revealed it’s lineup of free games on Xbox Live Games With Gold for this October, and has appropriately chosen to go with a horror theme. The lineup features the recently released Maid of Sker, as well as Slayaway Camp: Butcher’s Cut and Costume Quest, rounding out great value of horror for our favorite month.
Maid of Sker topped our list of best horror titles of 2020 and is a game that should not be missed, especially with the opportunity to get it free on the Xbox platform. You can read our full review here as well as an interview with the game’s sound director and composer.
Slayaway Camp: Butcher’s Cut is a highly-rated horror-themed isometric puzzle game, where you play as a 1980s slasher film killer whose goal is to efficiently assassinate as many teenagers as you can to finish each stage. The game originally launched in 2016, and version included in next month’s Games With Gold is the full package, including updates and additions that have come afterward. The studio’s follow-up game, an officially licensed Friday the 13th game entitled Friday the 13th: Killer Puzzle (which uses the same game engine), is also available on Xbox.
Costume Quest is an adorable and fun Xbox 360 title developed by the legendary Double Fine Studios way back in 2010, but is still one of the best RPG-lite adventure games out there. You play as a group of young kids on a quest to save Halloween from monsters that have invaded their town. Along the way, you’ll help them find plenty of fun costumes that enhance their abilities.
It was also just recently announced that Doom Eternal will be joining Xbox Game Pass on October 1st after the recent acquisition of Bethesda by Microsoft. Additionally, Game Pass currently has nearly 30 exceptional horror titles you can download and play right now to keep your October full of horror as we approach the 31st.
