Bloober Team’s foray into third-person horror has set them on a course to follow in the footsteps of the legendary Silent Hill series. As such, their next game, The Medium, features multiple realms of reality in which their protagonist must venture through to solve an overarching mystery. Oh, but let’s not forget that Akira Yamaoka is on board to do the score as well!
Instead of transitioning into an otherworld in scripted scenes, The Medium touts “patented” dual-reality gameplay which has the player exist in both worlds at the same time. The latest screenshots and Xbox Showcase trailer shows this in action, with side by side views of what protagonist Marianne and her astral form are experiencing. The trailer also reveals an antagonist of sorts who remains in pursuit of Marianne, as well as her having some form of magic abilities.
About The Medium:
The Medium is a third-person psychological horror game that features patented dual-reality gameplay and an original soundtrack co-composed by Arkadiusz Reikowski and Akira Yamaoka.
Never-seen-before and officially patented gameplay that plays out across two worlds displayed at the same time. Explore the physical world and the spirit world simultaneously, and use the interactions between them to solve dual-reality puzzles, unlock new paths, and awaken memories of past events.

All in all, The Medium‘s dual-realities mechanic is an impressive technical feat, and I hope Bloober Team’s talents creating wonderfully surrealist visuals are taken to new heights here. The Medium is set for release on Xbox Series X and Windows PC this Holiday season.
