Undead Labs’ zombie survival series continues! State of Decay 3 was announced today as another new Xbox title in active development during the Xbox Showcase. The announcement trailer even features a carnivorous zombie deer. Yeuu!
Details are scarce at this time, but according to the Xbox Blog, State of Decay 3 is “the next evolution” of the series, “bringing fans the new ultimate in zombie survival simulation.” The trailer shows an unnamed character hunting in a snowy wilderness only to be greeted by bloody tracks. At the end, of the blood trail, a wolf’s corpse is being eaten by a zombie deer.
As a fan of the first game who skipped on the second (which we reviewed and gave a 7/10), I’m hoping that the third time around yields a zombie survival game that gets even closer to Undead Lab’s original aspirations to turn the series into the definitive zombie survival experience. There are a ton of zombie games out there, but State of Decay‘s focus on community and resource management is a nice way to change things up. Expanded co-op options would be great too.
State of Decay 3 will launch on Xbox Series X and PC and will be part of the Xbox Game Pass subscription. No release date has been shared at this time.
