Warren Spector criticizes Wolfenstein: The New Order

Warren Spector is a name you might have heard before; he is a famous video game designer who has worked on classics like System Shock and, more recently, the Epic Mickey series. I personally respect the man, as do many others, however, just yesterday, it was revealed that inner rage was boiling within the usually cheerful man. The reason for this anger was the Wolfenstein: The New Order announcement.

Roughly 22 hours ago, the man wrote this on his Facebook page:

Did the world really need another Wolfenstein game? Did we need a generically dark, monochromatic, FPS, kill-the-Nazi-giant-robot game?

Uh. No. The world did not. I am so tired of stuff like this…

Oh, and could we all just agree we’ll never use the generic gravelly-whisper trailer voice guy ever again?

And one more thing: Please stop using Jimi Hendrix to promote your adolescent male power fantasies.

Thank you. I’m done.

This rather hostile commentary on a game we know barely anything about earned Warren a rather mixed response from his followers; some completely supported his statement with lines like “you are correct warren! fps are shit and only for down syndrome retards with no helmets,” while others were more critical and suggested that the man was still mad about Epic Mickey‘s lacking sales.

To be entirely honest, Warren did go into more detail in a number of comments he left on his own post, but his points remained the same; he is sick of generic shooters and he believes that the games industry is doing very poorly.

Do you agree or disagree with Warren’s comments? Let us know in the comments below and we can have a discussion of our own!
