Do you remember Until Dawn? The rumoured-to-be-cancelled-but-really-wasn’t horror title was originally intended to release on the PlayStation 3 with Move support, but it looks like that may have changed.
Players would take control of a group of teenagers visiting the site of their friend’s disappearance. Things take a turn from sad to terrifying when the group is stalked by a serial killer, who is picking them off one by one. It sounds like every 90’s teen slasher flick you’ve seen, and it could be using Project Morpheus.
Head of Sony Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida responded to a question from Polygon in regards to the game saying that not only was the game still in development, but as for which platform and whether or not it would use Morpheus, a PR rep from Sony refused to allow the question to be answered.
However, there’s some hope. From Yoshida:
That would be very interesting, because it’s a horror game, and the people are tweeting to me “I want to play Outlast in Morpheus.” I think that, in terms of genre, that’s a really good fit. If you really want to make serious games for Morpheus, the game design would be really, really different.
Given the tumultuous development of Until Dawn, I think we’d be lucky if it ever saw a release. Sure, it’s still in development, but for how long? Also, how many people are already calling on the missing friend being the killer?
It’s pretty clear that Project Morpheus would be great for not just horror games but for video games as a whole. Combine Morpheus with the Playstation Move and you might just have gaming gold in your hands. But I’m a little concerned that Morpheus will turn into another Playstation Move on the PS3 fiasco. The Playstation Move was a great concept, but so sparsely used that it collected an inch of dust in everyone’s (admit it) cupboard.
What kind of games would you like to see come to the PS4 using Morpheus?
