Through The Woods – Psychological Norse Horror Coming to Steam

So many fun things coming out of PAX this week, and this one in particular looks… interesting. Developer Antagonist is bringing Through The Woods, a psychological horror game inspired by Norse mythology, as well as other Steam horror games like Slender it would seem.

Through The Woods puts us in the shoes of a mother, whose son has been kidnapped by a mysterious being called “Old Erik”. Erik, by the way, is rooted in the Norse word Erikir- or “Ever Powerful”. Rather than just starting the player out with the mother’s plight, she begins by speaking with her doctor. As she shares her story of this horrible night, the player jumps into gameplay and helps her share her memories of the event. As she walks through these haunted woods, her flashlight will catch off of objects hidden in the shadows, and focusing on them will help her recall more of her story to share with the doctor. Potentially missing these objects could miss parts of the story, so keeping your eyes open is the best option.

Destructoid’s Alissa McAloon got some time with it at this year’s PAX, describing the first thirty minutes or so of atmospheric gameplay. Check it out in the source below.
