In an interview with ScreenCrush, lovable muscle-man Vin Diesel has announced that the Starbreeze team behind Escape from Butcher Bay and its mini-sequel Assault on Dark Athena have been reassembled for a third title in the Riddick video game series. At the 2:36 mark, Diesel states that plans for the third Riddick game were put in motion as recently as a several months ago. Diesel then crossed his fingers and gave a thumbs up. Oh my.
Escape from Butcher Bay released in 2004 with an HD re-release in 2009. The game stands out as one of my favorite stealth games in recent memory. With the film series moving back towards action horror, it would great to imagine that the next game in the Riddick series would as well. Dark Athena wasn’t as good as I hoped it would be, but with the box office success of the third Riddick film, hopefully we’ll see an excellent game in the future from the original development team.
