Watching The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct stumble towards release feels like watching a bird that your cat attacked die; it stumbles around a bit, faints a couple of times and then just goes after a few minutes. The first time we saw a trailer of the game it looked awful and it actually turned out that it was early material that wasn’t meant to be shown as a trailer. Now we got a real one and… it still fails to impress.
I could talk about the content of the trailer, but I think most of you will agree that it’s pretty bland. We also got some information on the two pre-order bonuses and that’s something I’d much rather talk about. Amazon shoppers can obtain three additional melee weapons with the “Walker Execution Pack” while GameStop will offer the “Herd Mode,” which is a wave-based challenge mode. I am not sure this is the extra push the game needs, seeing as how three melee weapons is kind of useless when you can only wield one at a time and “Herd Mode” is pretty much just the survival taken out of the game and held to ransom. Actually, now that I think about, that is even more baffling; the survival mode of Survival Instinct won’t be in the game unless you pre-order it from a specific store!
I am starting to get the sense that everybody involved with this game has just kind of given up and that is, admittedly, a little sad. I am going to get this game when it comes out, though, simply because I’d like to have a conventional shooter on my WiiU. The game is currently slated for a 22 March 2013 release on Xbox 360, Wii U and PlayStation 3.
