We’ve known about Terminal Reality’s The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct for quite a while now. We’ve seen small glimpses of the game since its announcement, but nothing substantial. That changes today. About time, too.
IGN has just revealed a lot more from the upcoming Activision-published first-person shooter title based on AMC’s adaption of the comic book, on the latest episode of Up at Noon. Yes, don’t get it confused, this isn’t meant to exist in the same universe as the black-and-white source material like Telltale’s brilliant game was. This is based on the hit TV show. But that doesn’t mean that choices won’t play a role, and that this will be a generic shooter with The Walking Dead license.
Will you utilize stealth or take a risk and try to confront the walkers head-on? You cross paths with a survivor, will you opt to take him or her with you, or will you leave them behind if you deem them a threat? How will you efficiently utilize the limited supplies and rations at your disposal? These are just some of the choices we’ll be making in the aptly titled game.
The story will be a prequel of sorts, telling the events that lead up to what we see in the first season of the TV show, when Rick wakes up from his coma. We’re taking on the role of Daryl Dixon, and he’ll, of course, be joined by his big brother, the ever-so amiable Merle. Norman Reedus and Michael Rooker will make the jump from the world of television to video games thanks to both of them reprising their roles as Daryl and Merle respectively.
No release date was announced, but it will be hitting the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC sometime in 2013.
