Frogwares The Sinking City really wants us to know that it’s inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s horror fiction. From its original announcement, it was clear that this game will be a theme park ride of eldritch horrors. The latest cinematic trailer dubbed “Death May Die” doesn’t disappoint.
Maddening imagery is on display here, with protagonist Charles Winfield Reed — a First World War veteran — finding himself drawn to small town Oakmont in Massachusetts. This little New England town was ravaged by a flood some time ago, and according to Reed who was institutionalized for nightmarish delusions, the cause was supernatural. The trailer is a conceptual supercut of the types of terrors Reed will face, ranging from upside down oceans, tentacled beasts, and visions of his own demise. But what about the gameplay, you say?
Frogwares also released a new progress update video showcasing The Sinking City‘s lighting and weather effects. There’s not much to glean from this video other than a few work in progress environments, but it gives us a better idea of how the game might play. The Sinking City is due for release on March 21, 2019 on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox One.
