With visual novels becoming more and more popular on Steam, as well as in the western market in general, it’s only natural that some silly concepts are going to be explored. A while ago we introduced you all to “But I love You” and now we have “The Miskatonic“, which combines the horror of Lovecraft’s stories with the absurdity of Disney’s take on Alice in Wonderland.
Set in a school that researches the occult, The Miskatonic is about a witch called Charlotte LeStrange, who came to the university after successfully taming a bunch of rampant Shoggoth. She helps the faculty and her fellow students on expeditions, while also working towards her own goal of summoning Shub-Niggurath, a deity from Lovecraft’s lore. To achieve this she must interact with the various weirdos populating the school, solve puzzles inspired by the PS2 era of gaming, and blow holes into monsters with her oversized shotgun. The game combines a 2D side-scrolling perspective with simple cut-scenes that use more detailed character art.
I must apologize, however, since this post is a tad late; the Kickstarter campaign is ending in less than 2 hours and has already passed its initial funding goal. I am definitely looking forward to this game and already found my favorite character: the tiny shadow-creature in the comic below. I don’t know the context of her character, but darn it, she’s so cute. I want a plushy of it.
