Still reeling from their latest release, developer Bloober Team has entered into a new publishing partnership which will see The Medium and Observer: System Redux getting physical editions at some point in the future. The news comes shortly after the German publishing company, Koch Media (known for their work on Dead Island and Saints Row IV), announced the new partnership with Bloober, though there are no dates yet as to when we can expect the games to hit shelves.
Observer: System Redux was launched in November 2020, while The Medium came out in January 2021. Both games received high praise (though The Medium was not without its flaws) and helped cement Bloober as one of the most important horror game creators of the current generation.
In a recent press conference, Koch Media CEO, Dr. Klemens Kundratitz, said they look forward to working with Bloober Team and this new relationship comes at a time when Bloober’s own Piotr Babieno said they’d listened to fans who had been asking for “a box release of our award-winning horror games.” You can see the original tweet from Koch Media below.
We're excited to announce our partnership with @BlooberTeam for the physical releases of psychologic horror game #TheMedium and award-winning cyberpunk thriller #ObserverSystemRedux! 🙌

It’s hard to know what to make of all this. On the one hand, it shows that the Polish studio is being celebrated for their continued contributions to horror gaming, but in an era in which many are gearing more towards digital games, one can’t help but think that having physical copies of games is now akin to a status symbol. That being said, I’m sure many fans will be eager to go out and buy them when they come out.
