After months of waiting (technically years) for more news regarding HBO’s television adaption of the critically acclaimed The Last of Us, eager fans have finally been rewarded for their patience! As part of a sizzle reel for a number of new and upcoming HBO Max series, a brief 22-second teaser showed us our first looks at Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, and Nick Offerman as Joel, Ellie, and Bill respectively in an adaption of The Last of Us: Part 1:

I’m personally really shocked at just how hard Pascal has nailed Joel, a character that feels so completely owned by his voice actor, Troy Baker, has come to life to an impressive degree in this first footage (the voice especially). The teaser gives us a few snippets of what is undeniably Last of Us action and tension, with a few moments fans have noticed being recreated (to a degree). After the crash and burn fan reception to other recent live-action adaptions of video games, such as Paramount’s Halo and Netflix’s Resident Evil, our fingers are crossed that this series can finally cross that line of quality that seems to have been a solid wall for this type of content so far.
There’s still no release date for the series as of yet besides a vague “next year”, but it’s probably a pretty safe bet that we’ll get another trailer sooner rather than later, especially with the upcoming Game Awards having just announced their broadcast date. In the meantime, the PS5 remake, The Last of Us: Part 1, releases in just a week and a half, so there’s plenty of clicker action while we wait.
