The Good Life Makes Its Way Onto Kickstarter

The Kickstarter campaign for The Good Life, co-developed by SWERY’s White Owls Inc., has officially launched.

The Good Life is the latest game by the writer/director of Deadly Premonition and D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die. The game puts players in the shoes of Naomi, a journalist who moves to a town called Rainy Woods, ‘the happiest town in the world’. If you have played SWERY’s previous work, you know this game won’t be as straightforward as it sounds. Someone is murdered and Naomi must unravel the mystery while trying to uncover a big secret the townspeople are hiding. Naomi’s actions also have a direct effect on how the townspeople behave and the direction of their lives.

Oh, and did I mention that once a month, everyone who lives in Rainy Woods transforms into either a cat or dog? Yeah, that happens. Like a cute werewolf, the moonlight forces all of the towns people to transform into these cute creatures. Depending on the animal you choose, different gameplay options will open up. If you turn into a cat, you can climb up to high places and steal food. If you choose a dog, you can dig holes and follow scents.

The Good Life campaign has a funding goal of ¥68,000,000 (US$641,920), with 37 days remaining to fund the project. Kickstarter pledges begin at $1 and provide updates about the games development. Pledges of $29 will grant access to the PC version of the game, while PlayStation 4 owners will need to pledge $39. Those with some money to burn can pledge $10,000, which will allow them to visit the White Owl’s studio and have dinner with SWERY. I assume that would be an interesting experience.
