Bethesda has lived up to their promise to improve the PC version of The Evil Within by adding additional (and natural for the platform) options. The game has been updated to include settings that let players change the game’s framerate and toggle the letterbox view. A few general tweaks were also done to accommodate the larger field of view.
After giving the patch a little test, I’m sad to say that while the option to play the game at 60fps has been made available via the in-game settings menu, further optimization does not seem to have been done. Those expecting a solid 60fps either need to have a far better rig, reduce their graphic settings significantly, or hold out for further performance patches. In its current state, The Evil Within just wasn’t made to support 60fps. Compared to other titles, the game demands more than it should in order to perform at a higher framerate.
Regardless of its shortcomings as a PC port, I truly loved the game. I wouldn’t complain if Bethesda worked on a few more patches, though.
