The Drowning released for free on iOS

When it comes to mobile games, I’ll admit that I’m a bit inexperience to what’s popular. Perhaps it’s preference for my Vita or my old Nintendo DS, or maybe it’s just that I’ve been stuck with a Windows 7 phone with a crappy battery and no firmware support from HTC because it’s obsolete. Maybe it’s because I’m getting old and you kids and your gadgets scare me. Whatever the reason, iOS devices (iPhone 3GS and above and iPad) have received a pretty nifty looking horror shooter today, with an Android version coming down the line. The best part? It’s free.

Scattered Entertainment has released The Drowning, a free to play horror shooter set 10 years in the future during some type of apocalyptic event. Based on a strange phenomena in Beebe, Arkansas in 2012, where thousands of dead, black birds fell from the sky, The Drowning has players fight former humans that have been transformed into strange creatures. As a survivor of a global catastrophe, players must shoot scary-looking stuff in what the developer calls a “console quality” shooter. If I could I’d try it out. Why not give it a whirl?
