Game developers looking to get their projects off the ground now have a new tool at their arsenal. Kickstarter is helping indie developers raise both capital and awareness for new games.
Video games based on the zombie apocalypse are a dime a dozen, but we’re suckers for the undead so we decided to check it out.
The Dead Linger is an open-world game set during the zombie apocalypse. Set in a first-person perspective, players must work together to scavenge for supplies, barricade and fortify shelter and just try to stay alive against zombies. For social folks, the game is set to support up to 16 players, but there’s also a solo, PvP and coop mode in the works.
Currently the game has $58,348 pledged by supporters. The goal is to have $60,000 pledged. There’s still 21 days to go. Don’t fret that this project is out of reach – there’s still time.
The developer, Sandswept Studios plans to release the game once its in the Alpha stage as sort of a beta. Fans of the game will be able to purchase at a discount (if they haven’t already) and give feedback.
What do you get if you back this project? Aside from helping a cool-looking game get off the ground, there are special incentives to back the game. The incentives range from having your name in the credits to receiving a free copy of the game, having game content named after you, to having an update named after you, should you feel like donating over $1000 (three people have at the time of writing).
In a time where publishers like EA and Activision register on gamers’ radar as evil corporate juggernauts, helping independent developers publish their dreams seems to be just what the doctor ordered.
