The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth will restructure its difficulty curve

The Binding of Isaac is kind of a hard game that has a tendency to reward anything you achieve by throwing even more difficult levels and bosses at you. It might have felt like an achievement when you first defeated Isaac’s crazed mother, but The Womb stage will quickly remind you that victory does not exist in this game until you have completed it 100%.

One concerned Isaac fan contacted Edmund McMillen and asked whether or not new players could turn off certain levels to give themselves an easier time. Edmund’s answer probably wasn’t what he was expecting: “rebirth wont play the same as isaac+wrath, the extra floors/bosses will slowly unlock over playing and getting to XYZ. it will actually have a difficulty curve to it in the same way the 1st game did, so thats not a worry.”

It’s a bit of a vague statement that doesn’t really tell us exactly what to expect, but that is probably intentional. Rebirth will launch on PC and Sony devices later this year, so until then, all of this will probably remain a mystery.
