Tangiers, an esoteric stealth game that needs crowdfunding

With six days left to fund their Kickstarter goal of £35,000, Tangiers‘ independent developers Alex Harvey and Michael Wright are nearing their funding goal. With just under £4,000 left to raise, the esoteric world of Tangiers may make it its way to PC gamers in the future. But what is Tangiers? That’s not exactly an easy question to answer due to the game’s interesting and unique design approach to its story, environments, and gameplay.

First and foremost, Tangiers is a sandbox stealth game similarly designed to the Thief series. Stealth and exploration are prominent gameplay features within the odd, fractured world within the game. Taking inspiration from works the likes of David Lynch and art within the avant-garde Dada movement, Tangiers casts players into a truly unique looking world with bleak lighting and an overall disturbing aesthetic. The goal of the game is to enter a surreal world affected by the player’s decisions and dispose of five beings. The layout of the world will be changed as a result of the player’s actions. The spoken words of the people within the world materialize into tangible tools that the player can use to lure targets away, alter the environment, or tweak reality itself.

Tangiers looks to be quite the interesting, if not complex, project. With six days left and being so close to its Kickstarter goal, it would be a shame for it not to be made. If what I described might be a little confusing, it would be best to check out the full Kickstarter page with a detailed explanation of the game mechanics, gameplay videos, and art from the game. Tangiers, if funded, is expected on Mac, PC, and Linux in the middle of 2014. The game is also up on Steam Greenlight for voting.
