Boy, am I glad I invested in a PlayStation 4.
If you’ve been watching the progress of Nightdive Studio’s excellent looking remake of System Shock (the game that the BioShock franchise is a successor to) from behind the console gate, you’re in luck! Announced today via PlayStation.Blog, System Shock will be hitting PlayStation 4 sometime in Q1 of 2018. From the blog:
Some of you might have heard about our Kickstarter that we started a few weeks ago. It’s still early in the project, but there was such a huge demand for a PS4 version that we immediately did what we could to make that happen. Today, I am incredibly proud to announce that System Shock will be coming to PS4 around Q1 2018. We’re excited to be working with Sony on this and can’t wait to see what all of you think of the game!
The Kickstater still has a few weeks left, so hop on it if this is a title you’re looking forward to! The original System Shock (and its sequel) is easily one of the most influential sci-fi horror games ever made, and the potential present in the remake is staggering. Hopefully, it may lead to a comeback for this older, now mostly lost first person RPG. We have our Fallouts and our Deus Exs, but very little plays like these older games. Deus Ex especially, while Human Revolution was great (and Mankind Divided looks even better) was hardly the cerebral, potentially eye-opening experience that the original PC game was. Even better, this remake might even lead to a true sequel to System Shock 2. Regardless, it looks amazing, and I can’t wait to see more- especially now that it’s coming to a platform that I own.
