Hidetaka Suehiro, also known as Swery 65, has crafted some of the most memorable, bizarre titles in gaming, including Deadly Premonition and D4: Dark Dream Don’t Die. When he revealed his new game last month, titled THE MISSING: J.J. Macfield and the Island of Memories, he revealed that the game would be coming quite soon. Thanks to a new launch trailer for the game, we know exactly how soon; just a couple weeks.
Releasing for multiple platforms on October 10, THE MISSING is a 2D sidescrolling adventure. Judging by the trailer, it looks heavily inspired by death-heavy sidescrollers like Limbo and Little Nightmares, but with plenty of surreal Swery flare added for good measure.
As a novice independent game developer, I’ve always found Swery’s work experimental and inspiring, despite obvious rough edges. Even as a brief stopgap between his next big title The Good Life, I’m very much looking forward to THE MISSING, and can’t wait to get my hands on it.
