Deadly Premonition is one of the strangest games I have ever had the pleasure of playing. The game is flawed in so many ways, but I can’t call it anything but a masterpiece. What the game does right it does amazingly right, with one of the most interesting stories to grace gaming with some of the quirkiest characters in existence, some of the strangest humor I’ve ever witnessed in a game, music that will etch itself in your mind, and you even freaking grow a beard if you don’t shave long enough, how awesome is that? However the combat shouldn’t exist in the game at all, the driving gets boring going from one point to another, and a few oddities in the game here and there that hold me back from being able to call this a good game, which leaves me in the awkward place to say Deadly Premonition is not a good game but is a beautiful masterpiece. I hope that makes sense. For a simple US price of $20 on release and it coming out in Europe within the month, I am hoping a few of you will go and buy the game and experience the tale of Agent York Morgan. I am telling you this since the game sold super terribly and this really is a gem for those of you seeking something different and can sustain tedious gameplay for a much deeper experience.
However despite all of that, Hidetaka Suehiro (better known in the West as “SWERY”) is very interested in doing a sequel, “If he gets the chance.” Having recently finished up working on a game for Square Enix he confirms he is working on a handheld game, but can’t say right now what that handheld game is. There was word of a potential Deadly Premonition port to the 3DS but that’s all rumor for now. Still besides terrible sales, him even having the passion to make a sequel is a good sign; Deadly Premonition went into development hell before it released, taking many years to finally get done, back when it was known as “Rainy Woods”. Maybe the goddesses of the forest are watching us, wouldn’t you agree Zach?
