Despite an overabundance of dark fantasy in video games, medieval horror isn’t really something that has been explored all that much. Developer Teamkill Studios is looking to mine some of that potential with their upcoming title LORN, which just dropped it’s official gameplay trailer.
Originally announced in January 2017, LORN‘s latest trailer shows off a lot of what genre fans have come to expect from modern first person horror games. Players will be navigating dimly lit environments with a torch while trying to survive hideous the monstrosities stalking the halls. While the trailer itself doesn’t give a lot to go on in terms of the game’s story, it does show off some interesting visuals, including some ominous knights and maybe a hint at a few forbidden rituals.
According to the game’s official website, LORN‘s story puts players in the shoes of a loyal servant to a king who has seemingly gone mad. Having absconded with some object that had driven the king to madness, players must escape and find a way to restore order to the kingdom. While it seems to be taking a few story cues from the likes of Dark Souls and Game of Thrones, there’s nothing wrong with a little fantasy in horror. It remains to be seen if Teamkill Studios have enough of a unique concept on their hands to set LORN apart from the droves of first person indie horror games out there, but it seems to be off to a strong start.
