Madmind Studio, the team behind the psychosexual Succubus, has had the VR version of the game – titled “Hellish Orgy” – banned from Steam for being “too disturbing.” The developer doesn’t state specifically which features led to its removal from the platform, only adding that Valve had concerns over its “drastic content.”
Madmind has offered boundary-pushing DLC and “unrated” versions of its games in the past. The non-VR release Succubus Unrated, which is still available on Steam, lists such spicy bonuses as a “hellish orgy” and various other adults-only themes. Some of the content involving abortions could well have been a factor in the recent banning. According to a report from PC Gamer, Madmind was not given the chance to “make changes” or otherwise “censor” the VR version of Succubus.
A supernatural creature from folklore, a succubus is known for its sexual activities with mortal men. Given that, it shouldn’t be too surprising that a game with this title features a lot of lewd content. According to the description, the game allows you to become a “demonic priestess of lust” and use your “unique skills” to defeat your enemies.
The controversy doesn’t end with Succubus, either. Back in February, Agony Unrated had similar issues. It was reportedly canceled by Steam, then released on the platform anyway before mysteriously vanishing from gamer’s libraries. Mandmind explained in a post on Steam at the time that “games with themes similar to ours can often face some difficulties on this platform.”
We recently reported on Madmind’s Paranoid, an upcoming psychological horror title scheduled for release this coming Halloween. The studio is also publishing Help Me, a first-person horror title from developer BlackRat, which is due for release this year.
