It’s been months since the last reliable update from the team at the Ukraine-based studio GSC Game World, until now, that is.

During Xbox Games Showcase Extended, which aired just recently, the developers behind the highly anticipated S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl showed a video consisting of snippets filmed by their employees.

In the video, they show just how close to the devastation their offices were when the conflict began back in February. They also gave personal updates, in which some of the team have been living in cramped spaces, while others have joined Ukraine’s territorial defense forces, picking up arms to defend their country.

It is very obvious that, despite everything the people working on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 have been through over the past few months, they are full of passion for this project. Personally, I was not expecting them to actually show much of the game after the impressions we had just seen. However, GSC Game World blessed us with the premiere of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl‘s intro, which you can see at the bottom of this article.

This might just be me, but that trailer gave me quite the nostalgic Resident Evil 2 vibes, in all the best ways, as we see a man drive a military truck through the dense forests around Chornobyl. It’s obviously going to get compared to the likes of Chernobylite, but GSC’s offering seems to have a different vibe, and no doubt plenty of fans are excited for when the studio will finally get to release it.

We cannot wait for better times for the developers, and to see more of what they have spent so much of their time working on.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is now scheduled to release on Xbox Series S/X and Windows PC sometime in 2023. Check out the game’s intro below.
