Spicy Horse launches OZombie Kickstarter campaign

Ever since GDC 2013, one question has been hovering over the Spicy Horse fanbase: “Alice or Dorothy?” That question has now been answered, and Dorothy is the victor. A Kickstarter campaign for OZombie was launched yesterday and will run until Monday Aug 5, 4:57pm EDT. Spicy Horse hopes to raise a minimum of $950,000 for the project.

A lot of people are probably disappointed with the decision, such as the fine… ladies(?) in the video below. American McGee has explained, however, that they simply couldn’t do another Alice game, as they haven’t finished their negotiations with EA yet. “We’re still having meaningful and productive conversations with EA regarding Alice. Truth is, it’s an important bit of IP for them and for us (and for you!) which means that negotiating a deal is going to take time,” American McGee stated in an update.

Personally, I am rather glad that they went with Dorothy instead of Alice. Madness Returns was pretty fun, but without EA’s funding, the next game could only be smaller in scope. OZombie is a new IP, which is not only exciting, but it also means it doesn’t have the same hype and expectations behind it.
