It seems like Sony’s horror series Siren may be making a comeback. Recent activity on the Korean Game Rating website has sparked speculation about the franchise’s return.
The original 2003 Siren involves interconnected storylines and features a cast of characters from various time periods who find themselves in the mysterious town of Hanuda, which is populated by shibito, deadly zombie-like creatures. The player must use sightjacking, a power that allows them to see the shibito’s perspectives, and help deal with threats as they progress through the levels.
This new classification has reignited hopes of a potential remake or even a new installment of the franchise, especially given the fact that the Siren series has been absent from the gaming scene for quite some time.
The last major appearance was a re-release of the original PlayStation 2 title on the PlayStation Store for PS4. However, this version did not make it to Korean players, raising questions about whether this new rating is for an enhanced re-release or a completely new entry in the series.
Fans are cautious not to get their hopes too high, as this could simply be an update to the existing PS2 version. While there’s no official word from Sony, the rating hints that we may hear more at upcoming events like The Game Awards 2024, which takes place on Thursday, December 12th.
Until then, horror genre fans can only speculate and hope that one of Sony’s classic horror franchises might be making its return.
