Is there a void in your heart that longs to be filled with horrors drowning in stars and malevolent AIs? Do you quiver at 3:27 AM with a sense of displacement and a feeling that you’re light-years away from your (derelict space station) home? Well, you should probably check out KISS Ltd.’s Solarix on Kickstarter so you can at least simulate those odd problems away. You will inhabit the body of a ‘sole survivor of human genetic experiments gone badly’ and use a combination of stealth, leftover weapons, and hacking tools to attempt an escape from the titular research station. Oh, and there are the scary zombiemens to worry about. And the ‘clean-up’ squad sent to destroy remnants of the previously mentioned experiments. And the security system’s flying drones. And the sniper-robots. And and and.
The footage shown on the Kickstarter page looks promising, especially if you have any appreciation for the System Shock games. There seems to be the same type of atmosphere, and if that can be pulled off, we shall all be in for a spacey treat. As to be expected, some aspects of the game seem less-than-finished, such as the enemies that don’t seem particularly bothered by bullets. I imagine their animations will get a bit of love in the coming months. The light-based stealth meter has the potential for tension, as long as the AI isn’t too easily manipulated. If all else fails, you can always opt for some combat. Hopefully many of the sounds are placeholders right now, as I couldn’t help but grin every time the Goldeneye silenced pistol noise pew pew’d out of the gun.
There is less than a month available to chip in if you’re interested. I personally always have time for some interstellar scary-time, even if the main character has hilariously small hands.
