Nintendo is kind of a wholesome company that you associate with games that are fun for the entire family, so it was not really a surprise when The Binding of Isaac, which pokes fun at religion and is generally described as a gross-out game, was not allowed to release on Nintendo systems. Perhaps the game’s success gave Nintendo a reason to reconsider, as a recent tweet by Nicalis founder Tyrone Rodriguez teases us with an image of the game playing on a 3DS.
Rebirth released a few days ago to positive reviews, with 96% of the almost 6,000 user reviews on Steam recommending it. So far, professional reviews are still being written (including my own), but that is still an amazing number, so perhaps the big N took notice. While nothing has been confirmed quite yet, the image above clearly shows the game playing on a screen with a tiny DS handheld system resting in the bottom-right corner, displaying Isaac’s menu screen. Later tweets by Mr. Rodriguez were unrelated, except for one image in which he called out a person for spamming him with criticism on Nicalis’ games on Nintendo systems.
Having strong indie titles on your platform is always nice, so hopefully this will end up being an actual project. Are you holding out hope yourself or did you get Rebirth on a different system already?
