The Silent Hill 2 Remake has made headlines for all the wrong reasons after Wikipedia had to lock down its page due to repeated vandalism attempts. Fans, unhappy with the game’s positive reception, attempted to alter review scores and spread false claims about the game’s performance.
According to Eurogamer, edits on the Wikipedia page included falsehoods. Among these is the claim that the game received “the worst reviews imaginable,” while another claimed Eurogamer had given it a 0/5 rating when it actually received a 5/5. The vandalism was so persistent that Wikipedia administrators had to semi-protect the page to prevent unregistered users from further tampering.
No one is exactly sure why these edits keep happening. Some speculate fans are upset about changes to the characters’ appearances and attire, labeling them as “woke.” Others believe that the negativity stems from fans who are unhappy with Bloober Team developing the Silent Hill 2 Remake.
Despite the backlash, the remake has enjoyed success. Early users, who accessed the game, have given it overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam and Metacritic.
