The Silent Hill 2 remake is getting a lot of love from Masashi Tsuboyama, the director behind the original 2001 game. Fans of the horror classic have been eagerly waiting for Bloober Team’s take on it, and now, with Tsuboyama’s approval, the hype is only growing stronger.
In a post on X, Tsuboyama expressed his joy over seeing Silent Hill 2 reach a new audience. “I think the value of the remake is that a new generation can play it,” he shared, adding that as a creator, he feels “very happy” about it. Tsuboyama continued by saying that the remake doesn’t detract from the original, stating, “Whether it’s good or bad doesn’t affect the original.”
However, while he’s pleased with the game itself, Tsuboyama voiced some disappointment with how the remake has been promoted. He criticized the marketing’s focus on graphical improvements, like 4K resolution, suggesting that the story, not visuals, is the heart of Silent Hill 2. He praised the remake’s updated camera perspective, saying the over-the-shoulder view “definitely adds to the sense of realism.”
With the release of the remake, Tsuboyama is eager to experience Silent Hill 2 again in its new, immersive format, stating, “It makes me want to try playing the even more immersive remake.”
🟥I think the value of the remake is that a new generation can play it. As a creator, I’m very happy about it. It’s been 23 years! Even if you don’t know the original, you can just enjoy the remake as it is. Whether it’s good or bad doesn’t affect the original.#SilentHill2
