Capcom has fully embraced the remake and remaster trend. While Resident Evil is enjoying unprecedented success with its new versions, and a revision of the original Dead Rising will be released in the coming weeks, fans are still eagerly asking for a revival of Dino Crisis. However, there are some who oppose this idea, including the creator of the series himself, Shinji Mikami.
In a recent interview with Eurogamer, Mikami expressed his views on the potential for a new Dino Crisis game.
He admitted:
I’m very surprised to hear that (referring to the fan’s interest in a comeback).
Yet, he believes the massive popularity of Monster Hunter has effectively covered the dinosaur niche, stating:
The awesomeness of dinosaurs and the stuff you can do with dinosaurs, that’s been kind of really nailed down by Monster Hunter in recent years.
Mikami further elaborated that he doesn’t see much room for a new Dino Crisis game at this time, noting:
Even if I were to decide to make a remake or a new version of Dino Crisis, I don’t really feel like there’s a whole lot of space for that kind of game right now.
Some may feel let down by this decision, but Capcom is focused on its successful franchises like Monster Hunter. Whether Shinji Mikami feels there’s a need for a revival of Dino Crisis, fans of the series nevertheless hold out hope.
