Shadow Warrior is a reboot of the DOOM-esque shooter of the same name, from 1997. Being revived for PC and next-gen consoles by Flying Wild Hog and publisher Devolver Digital, Shadow Warrior sees the return of Lo Wang, the unfortunately named assassin from the original game. Flying Wild Hog’s reboot aims to give a modern audience an over-the-top shooter with demons, gang members, and swordplay. Any concerns regarding the original game’s penchant for Asian racial stereotypes and misogyny should not be expected, as the studios behind the game have made it clear that they see no place for something like that to continue.
But enough about an offensive history, how does the game look? Well, it seems to be in the same vein as such run-and-gun titles as Serious Sam. Lo Wang, the games protagonist, is sent on an assignment that requires him to recover an ancient sword called the Nobitsura Kage. In his pursuit for the sword, he winds up fighting demons and creatures from another realm. Original? No, but I doubt this game is going for anything serious. Check out some screenshots below.
