Flying Wild Hog and Devolver Digital are ready to bring back the wang. Shadow Warrior 3 has officially been announced this week, showing the return of series protagonist Lo Wang.
For the uninitiated, the new Shadow Warrior games started off with a remake of the problematic 1997 PC game. Trading jokes at the expense of Asians for dick jokes and machismo, the Shadow Warrior reboot from 2013 was a pleasant surprise. I reviewed Shadow Warrior and its sequel, giving both positive marks for their amusing dialogue and fast-paced action.
Shadow Warrior 3 is said to feature the addition of a grappling hook to further Lo Wang’s acrobatic skills, as well as violent finishing moves, dynamic combat arenas, and more silliness. From the Steam page:
Fallen corporate shogun Lo Wang and his former employer turned nemesis turned sidekick Orochi Zilla embark on an improbable mission to recapture an ancient dragon they unwillingly unleashed from its eternal prison. Armed with a punishing mix of blades and bullets, Lo Wang must traverse uncharted parts of the world to track down the dark beast and push the apocalypse back yet again. All it will take is the mask of a dead god, a dragon’s egg, a touch of magic, and enough firepower to hold off the impending cataclysm.
The Shadow Warrior 3 teaser trailer ends with Lo Wang giving viewers the middle finger while hyping up the gameplay reveal, which we can expect during Devolver Digital’s online conference on Saturday, July 11. As for the game, expect it to launch in 2021 on PC and probably next-gen consoles.
