Shadow of the Undead – Fumito Ueda dreams of a zombie game

Fumito Ueda (director of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus) has been secretive since he finished his freelance work on The Last Guardian. Though the game has yet to be released, he’s on record as saying that his creative input has long been done for that particular project. So what has he been working on since then? “That is secret.”

Drat! So we still don’t know what he’s been focusing on. But we do know he wants to try someday. In an interview with EDGE, he stated that “One day [he’d] like to make a game on the theme of zombies”. Wait…what? He wishes to avoid using them as a “convenient enemy” and to use them to express characters “lyrically”. I don’t know what all this means, but Shadow of the Colossus was one of my favorite games, so I’m curious to see how he’d go against zombie tropes. Maybe someday we’ll see these ideas come to fruition.
