The Scare to Care marathon is one that hopes to help children of cancer plagued parents smile and be happy with the help of some good, scary games. Every year the Scare to Care marathon takes place in order to fund-raise for Camp Kesem, a non-profit camp for children who suffer from their loved one’s battle with cancer.
This year’s marathon starts tomorrow at 8:00PM PDT and ends at 8:00 PM on May 28th at UC San Diego camp. The three day marathon will be filled with pranks, prizes, and fun scares for the kids, all in the name to raise some funds for the camp. The marathon will include several popular horror games: Amnesia: the Dark Descent, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corner of the Earth, Dead Space, Left 4 Dead 2, Maniac Mansion Deluxe, Penumbra, Resident Evil 0, and Silent Hill 2. You can catch the marathon on their TwitchTV channel starting tomorrow.
Last year the marathon raised $1,100 for the San Diego camp; let’s see if we can help them surpass that amount.

About Scare to Care
Scare to Care is a yearly videogame-based fundraiser to benefit Camp Kesem UCSD, a non-profit organization which hosts yearly camps for the children of cancer patients. Last year’s fundraiser featured Tim Shaw and his younger brother Vernon taking turns play Amnesia: The Dark Descent (considered to be one of the scariest videogames ever created) over a live internet stream and scaring each other with elaborate pranks in the name of a good cause . The event raised over $1,100 for Camp Kesem UCSD and drew viewers and donators from as far away as Finland and Australia. This year, not only are we increasing our goal exponentially but we are expanding the concept and organizing a three day long, non-stop videogame marathon of at least eight horror games. The marathon, taking place from May 25-28 will be streamed live over the internet for the entire world to see and enjoy. Our goal this year is community and audience participation, so you can expect to see familiar faces, fun prizes, and hilarious scares throughout the entire marathon.
About Camp Kesem
Camp Kesem Nationals is an organization dedicated to creating week-long, student-run summer camps across the nation for children whose parents have or have had cancer. Many groups exist to help and support those with cancer, but this disease also takes its toll on all those who are close to and care about that person. Dealing with those feelings and emotions are difficult enough for an adult, but many children have to struggle with it every day. Camp Kesem strives to be a place where children can not only play, have fun, and just be kids; but also to act as a safe haven where campers can find strength in the fact that there are other children out there who are just like them.
The proceeds from this fundraiser will directly benefit Camp Kesem UCSD, a Camp Kesem chapter serving the San Diego area. This year, Camp Kesem UCSD plans to welcome 100 campers to the their site located in Idyllwild along with a staff of over 50 volunteers. Because of the financial burdens associated with cancer treatments, Camp Kesem asks for no financial contribution from the families. All of this funding comes from the efforts at the students at UCSD through fundraisers similar to this.
