Alone in the Dark programmer Frederick Raynal has a different kind of horror game he’d like you to try. That game is 2Dark, an action-adventure title for PC, and it’s looking for support on European crowdfunding site ulele.
Profiler Mr. Smith is on the hunt to save children that have been kidnapped by serial killers in the town of Gloomywood (sounds like a grand place). Smith must sneak into each killer’s lair, collect all the kids and get out with them while hiding from monsters, counting ammo and piecing together the motivations for these killers. Most importantly though, the children have to stay alive! Oh, I guess Smith does too…that’s also kind of important. It’s dark, and adjusting your brightness settings won’t help you (damn!).
According to the game’s campaign page, 2Dark is not necessarily influenced by serial killers themselves, but around horror movie cliches and cop shows: the children must be rescued from the clutches of serial killers. Some of the concept art shows some deeply disturbing images though involving children in various stages of…um…dead, which always seems to stir up feelings that are difficult to properly articulate.
What’s most striking about 2Dark is the game’s retro style, created with pixel tiles and voxels. Take a look!
If all goes well, the team plans on releasing the game for PC platforms at the end of next year. If you like what you see, you can check out the developer’s blog, Facebook page or Twitter and spread the word!
