If you’re as big a fan of Volition’s Saints Row series as I am, then you’ll be very pleased to hear that the announced Gat Out of Hell standalone expansion and Saints Row IV Re-Elected (the next-gen version of SRIV with all of the DLC packs and Gat Out of Hell included on the disc) have had their release date bumped up one week to January 20th, 2015. In addition, two brand-new DLC packs, The Devil’s Workshop and The Plague of Frogs, have been revealed for Gat Out of Hell and Re-Elected respectively and will release on the same day as the full games. Volition also released a trailer for the former which showcases many of the new weapons available in the expansion.
Although announcing DLC for what’s essentially already DLC may seem like a shady practice to some, it’s great that Volition is still willing to support SRIV as we eagerly await the teased fifth installment in the nearly decade-old open-world crime series.
The infernally-based Gat Out of Hell features fan-favourite character Johnny Gat, fresh off of his resurrection in Saints Row IV, battling his way through the fiery pits of the underworld and slaughtering Satan’s minions by the dozens on a quest to rescue the President of the United States. With the help of weapons themed after the Seven Deadly Sins (including a set of armchair-mounted gatling guns and a flaming sword capable of shooting plasma blasts), Gat’s gonna raise some Hell or die trying.
Gat Out of Hell releases on January 20th, 2015 as a standalone title on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC for a suggested MSRP of $19.99, or as part of Saints Row IV: Re-Elected, which launches on PS4, Xbox One and PC for $49.99.
