S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is apparently going to be very stable upon release, according to newest info. The possibility of supporting mods for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 on Xbox is also being explored by the developers.
The information comes directly from Zakhar Bocharov, PR manager for GSC Game World, who recently appeared on a podcast called Не занесли.
Of course, Bocharov has nondisclosure agreements preventing him from spilling the beans on everything fans of the franchise would have liked to know. However, he was still able to provide a few new points of interest.
- Firstly, Bocharov is certain that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will run very stable upon release. Reportedly, there were attempts to have the game use the original X-Ray engine, but due to its age, this option was discarded. Ultimately, the developers opted to use the well-established Unreal Engine.
- When asked about Mod support, Bocharov replied to Kotaku: “Mods are extremely important to the STALKER franchise, so our case can be considered quite unique […] To a certain extent, we have chosen Unreal Engine for STALKER 2 because of its mod support.”
- GSC Game World’s new iteration on their life simulation system, A-life 2.0, will show interactions between NPCs and factions “on a new level” though he could not go into detail as to what exactly that will mean for players.
- Lastly, he confirmed that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will have a “non-linear storyline with a huge number of branches and different endings”, which should make eager fans squirm in their seats even more.
As always, we will update you when there is new stuff to learn about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, which still does not yet have an official release date (except for “2021”), with the official website stating that “We are not ready to disclose the release date just yet”. Given recent launch disasters in the gaming industry, that is probably the smart thing to say.
