Ehhh? The last thing that comes to mind when I think of Until Dawn, the story-driven QTE horror game from Supermassive Games and Sony Entertainment, is first-person virtual reality shooter. But that seems to be the general gist of an email Destructoid received a few days ago. Purportedly titled Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, it seems to be not only first-person, but also on-rails as well, ala Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles.
Well you get transported around inside a mine cart; it’s very literally an on-rails experience. There are a few scattered jumpscares, as you’d expect, but I played the same 20 minute section twice (once with DS4, once with dual Move controllers), so I’m hoping the full DLC is a lot more padded out. I didn’t see which character I was playing as, I’m not sure if it’s specified, but no names were mentioned at all.
It starts off shooting targets in the snow, then moves toward a house and as you get deeper into the house, enemies start appearing (I believe they were Wendigos). The frequently reused jumpscare is the ‘ghost’ from inside the house in Until Dawn, who you end up fighting for the final area I played. Upon killing the ghost, the game would crash every time.
If memory serves, when Until Dawn was announced as being made with the PlayStation 4’s VR technology in mind. Clearly that was dropped at some point, considering I can’t even quite imagine how the final game would’ve played with the Project Morpheus headset. But if this DLC turns out to be true, this might be left over from that earlier version of the game. I guess we’ll find out in a few months.
