Rumor: Resident Evil 9 Set Four Years After Village, with Leon and Jill Returning as Main Characters

Rumors about Resident Evil 9 continue to circulate, though Capcom has yet to make an official announcement. Previously, there was talk of Leon and Jill as the main characters, and new details seem to confirm this, with more hints added.

According to Residence of Evil, a well-known YouTube channel focused on Capcom’s Resident Evil series, Leon S. Kennedy and Jill Valentine are likely to be the main characters. However, they won’t be the only familiar faces. Chris Redfield and Barry Burton are also rumored to appear, helping Leon and Jill on their missions.

The story is set four years after Resident Evil Village. The plot revolves around Leon and Jill traveling to an island to investigate the company that created Eveline in Resident Evil 7, who are now creating mass clones of the bioweapon Eveline using the Megamycete provided by Miranda from Resident Evil Village.

During the game, Leon and Jill also get infected by the Megamycete, which leads to frequent hallucinations and hearing Eveline’s voice throughout the game.

Leon’s appearance will resemble his look in Resident Evil: Damnation, but he will look older, with an unshaven face and slightly longer hair. Jill’s look will match her tactical design from Resident Evil 5: Lost in Nightmares, not her appearance in Resident Evil 3 Remake.

The main villian is said to be a new character named Mr. Simon, who supervises the mass production of bioweapons on the island, and the two heroes will be pursued by terrifying creatures throughout the game. Standard enemies will include evolved zombies with behavior similar to the Ganados from Resident Evil 4. Fans can also expect Blue Umbrella to return as a “good guy”.

The game will feature diverse settings such as an abandoned hospital, caves, deserted houses, labs, dark forests, and a temple. Development is reportedly well underway, with two playtests conducted in Japan in April and September. Despite all these details, it’s still all speculation. However, Capcom is reportedly set to reveal Resident Evil 9 at The Game Awards 2024.
