Our 2013 Game of the Year Winner, The Last of Us, was hauntingly gorgeous. The flourishes of color, the animation, the variation in locales; all aspects of the art design were top-notch. However, Kyle Campbell and myself were teased as part of the Elite PC Master Race when we complained that the Playstation 3 was having a bit of trouble running it. The screen-tearing, some low-resolution textures, and the slight dips in framerate weren’t a huge affront to our master race sensibilities, but they were definitely noticeable.
That’s why this rumor via OPM is alluring. On a US blog, Naughty Dog community strategist Eric Monacelli was asked about the possibility of a Playstation 4 port. His answer is intriguing: “We’re just getting our Naughty Dog engine up and running on PS4 as we work on the next UNCHARTED project. We will see what the future brings! :)”
Of course, it could mean nothing. Rumors like these have been swirling around for a while. But he used a smiley, folks. A smiley. WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!
