Well, colour me interested.

Out of the blue, Legendary has announced that their upcoming film based on Capcom’s Dead Rising series of open-world zombie games (now officially titled Dead Rising: Watchtower) will be helmed by comedian Rob Riggle, of The Daily Show and 21 Jump Street fame.

The film, described by Legendary’s official site as “taking place during a large-scale zombie outbreak” following the failure of a government-issued vaccine designed to kill the zombie virus, also stars Harley Morenstein (one the guys behind the hit YouTube show Epic Meal Time), Keegan Connor Tracey (a TV actor best known for Once Upon A Time), and Aleks Paunovic (who was awesomely credited as “the Karate Dad” in the otherwise-forgettable 2012 flick This Means War) as West’s compatriots and is being written by Tim Carter, one of the producers behind Machinima’s Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series. He also wrote the memetically-cheesy script for Sleeping Dogs, so hopefully Frank will not be devoid of pork buns in this adaptation.

We won’t know whether Watchtower will boast the same dubious level of quality as most other video game-to-film adaptations until it debuts on Sony’s Crackle streaming service sometime next year, but there are enough pieces in place for this film to at least be watchable for those in the mood for some dumb zombie fun.
