Love it or hate it, Resident Evil is getting another versus multiplayer game — and soon! Resident Evil RE:Verse is the all-new pack-in multiplayer component of Resident Evil Village (similar to how Resistance was bundled with REmake 3), releasing on May 7th. A private, invite-only beta was held earlier this year in January, but now everyone else is going to get a crack at it! Announced a few weeks ago, the RE:Verse open beta will be going up on the 7th of this month (this upcoming Wednesday). If you’d like to get a head-start on it, the beta is now available now to download on Xbox One, PS4, and Steam (the beta isn’t available for current-gen systems but can be played on them). The beta itself starts at 11 PM PT, so this is just about getting it on your system beforehand instead of downloading it that night.
If you’re unfamiliar, Resident Evil RE:Verse is a 3v3 multiplayer shooter that sees beloved heroes from across the most recent games in the series duke it out in memorable locations like the R.P.D. and more! Each character has their own unique perks and abilities, and upon death, you can transform into a special BOW creature — with the Hunter γ, Super Tyrant, Nemesis, and Jack Baker revealed so far. While we haven’t seen too too much of it yet, the hero count is rather robust, which is super fun (although they’re all their most recent RE Engine iterations):
- Jill Valentine
- Leon Kennedy
- HUNK
- Ada Wong
- Chris Redfield (strangely using his generally unpopular RE7 look and not his RE8 look)
- Claire Redfield
While the beta is only on last-gen consoles, the game itself will be available with Resident Evil Village on Xbox One, Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Steam, and Stadia. Again, the beta begins this Wednesday at 11pm PT. See you there!
