Tokyo Game Show is going on in full effect right now, which means showgoers are able to get their hands on the recently announced, rather polarizing, multiplayer Resident Evil spin-off, Umbrella Corps. Some new details have been revealed for the game.
No Xbox One version is currently planned, no cross platform support either like Street Fighter V will have (another Capcom title hitting PlayStation 4 and PC).
The game will be set after the fall of Umbrella. Several corporations have picked up the mantle left behind by the evil pharmaceutical company, deploying their mercenaries to do battle with each other in infected areas (taking the form of a training program). Despite this barebones story set-up, Umbrella Corps will not have an actual single player mode. Also, don’t expect any returning characters since the game is separate from the main series’ lore (hence the lack of “Resident Evil” in the title).
All maps are based on historical landmarks from the series. The ones that have been shown so far are: Raccoon City, Resident Evil 4 village, Resident Evil 5 town square, and quite possibly Resident Evil Revelations’ Queen Zenobia (we see a ship in one of the screens towards the end of the announcement trailer, so that could be a clean, daylit version of it).
The only gameplay mode revealed so far is One Life Match where players compete against each other in two teams of three. Zombies will also play a key role, looking to throw off your strategy with their disruption. More modes and the full player count will be revealed later on.
We also have a neat little live action trailer for the game below! Stay tuned for more information as it hits.
