Slant Six utilizing LOD graphics tool for Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City

Slant Six, known previously for their work on SOCOM, is currently at work developing the next big Resident Evil title for home consoles, Operation Raccoon City. And while the game still has no firm release date other than an expected winter launch window, we still get excited by every bit of news we hear. I can’t say this enough, but despite what the game’s strong squad-based focus may have you believe, Operation Raccoon City is one hell of a good time. I couldn’t get enough of it at E3 and I’m sure as hell going to be playing it immensely at both Fright Club (more on this later today) and NY Comic-Con next week. I just hope both venues will have a new demo, but anyway.

It has just been revealed that Slant Six has licensed Donya’s level of detail (LOD) solution Simplygon for the purposes of enhancing the game’s graphical performance. The extent of this is a bit technical, though. Basically, this visual tool is one that removes visual details that players won’t actually be able to perceive (like fast-moving objects in the distance or other details that are far away from the central action onscreen) which will then lead to an overall boost in the visuals of actual perceivable models onscreen. This graphics tool also works wonders for multiplatform development, in that all it requires is 3D content being created once, with it then being automatically optimized to run on different platforms. Yeah, this is all technical gibberish, but the main thing to get away from this is that Slant Six is really looking to deliver a graphical powerhouse with Operation Raccoon City
